 NFSL Pro League Basketball Rules
A. Prizes and Fees
1. League champion receives a plaque and $500 Cash.
2. League runnerup receives $200 Cash.
3. League third place receives $100 renewal discount for this team.
4. League fourth place receives $50 renewal discount for this team.
5. The league high scorer each week for weeks 1-17 receives a FREE ENTRY in the following week's Weekly Game, with a $35 prize to the winner every week.
6. Annual league cost is $200. The first season, there is also a $50 franchise fee. If the league ever folds while you are still an active member, the franchise fee will be refunded to you. If you quit the league, your fee is forfeited.
B. League Structure
1. Each PRO league consists of 14 teams in 3 divisions (5/5/4).
2. Standings are based on win-loss percentage of head-to-head games, with total points as a tiebreaker. Winners of tie games are determined by home field advantage of a half-point.
3. The regular season consists of 17 weeks. A league SCHEDULE will be published at the start of each season.
4. The playoffs are held in the final 6 weeks of the NBA regular season. Each round will last 2 weeks. Please see the 'Playoffs' paragraph for more detail.
C. Team Rosters
1. Roster limit is 16, including coaches.
2. The roster limit will not be allowed to be exceeded.
3. There is no limit or minimum number of players at any position on the roster.
D. Weekly Lineups
1. A new lineup may be assigned every week. If no lineup changes are reported, the previous week's lineup will be used.
2. A player may be placed in only one lineup position.
3. Lineup positions are:
1 TC    Team Coach
1 C      Center
2 *C     Backup Centers
2 F       Forwards
3 *F     Backup Forwards
2 G      Guards
3 *G     Backup Guards
4. Backup scores are used as needed to accumulate the required number of games. Each team gets 6 games at Center, and 12 games at guard and forward every week.
5. Example: If the 2 starting Forwards each play 3 games in the week, 6 more games are needed. If the first backup forward plays 4 games, his entire score is counted, and 2 more games are needed. If the second backup forward plays 3 games, then 2/3 of his points would count, and the third backup would not score. This method results in an increased importance on depth.
E. Scoring
1. Each match consists of all NBA games played in one week (Monday thru Sunday). Points are accumulated by players in the starting lineup. Point values are:
Category                      Posn       Points
Team Wins                    TC           10
Point Scored                   ANY       1
Assist                            ANY       1
Rebound                        ANY       1
Blocked Shot                  ANY       1
Steal                              ANY       1
Turnover                        ANY       -1
Field Goal Percentage     ANY       1 pt for each 2% over 40
2. Field Goal % Example: 50% = 5 points.
3. The lowest possible score for any player in one week is zero.
F. Weekly Series
1. For every weekly matchup, there is a 5-game series between the opponents. Results for the higher-scoring team are:
Win by 200 - go 5-0
Win by 100 - go 4-1
Win by 1     - go 3-2
G. Injured Reserve
1. In addition to the 16-man roster, up to 2 players may be held on IR.
2. Any player may be placed on IR (you can 'manufacture' injuries just as the pros do).
3. Any player put on IR may not be activated for at least 2 weeks.
4. Each team may activate a maximum of 6 players off IR during the season. Players that are waived or traded off IR do not count toward the 6 moves.
H. Practice Squad
1. In addition to the 16-man roster and 2-man IR, 1 player may be held on the practice squad.
2. Players may only be moved to the practice squad from immediately after the draft until week 4. Players may be called up from the practice squad any time.
3. Any player left on the practice squad at the end of the season is automatically protected in addition to the usual number of protected players (See 'Continuous League').
4. If a player is traded from a team's practice squad, he will automatically be placed on the practice squad of the new team if a spot is available.
I. Transactions
1. Trades may be made with other teams in the same league. Multiple-player and multiple-team trades are allowed.
2. Each week, a 5-round free agent draft is held. Owners may request up to 5 lists of of preferred free agents (one signing per list). Free agents are awarded in the reverse order of the standings.
3. Free agent selections for current and future weeks may be traded for players and/or other free agent picks.
4. No more than 5 new players may be added to a roster in any one week by trades and/or free agent signings. A player that is acquired then traded/waived in the same week will NOT count toward the 5.
5. When a player is traded from a team, he can not be placed back on that team's roster for at least 4 weeks.
6. When a player is waived from a team's roster, he can not be signed by a different team until the following week. However, the waiving team may cancel the waiver and 're-sign' him any time before the deadline.
7. No players may be signed as free agents after week 17. No trades are allowed after week 14.
J. Trade Assessment
1. Each week, owners in this league may register a protest on any trade until 4 PM eastern time on Saturday. If 4 or more protests are registered on any trade, it is voided, and will be reversed. An attempt will be made to notify owners of a voided trade prior to the lineup deadline.
2. All protests and trades will be archived during the season. In the event of a void, all protests for the season will be analyzed. If it is determined that any owner is protesting the majority of league trades, or all trades by one owner, his protest on this trade and all future trades for the season will be ignored.
K. Fantasy Bonuses
1. Twice during the season, each owner may give one of his players a 'bonus' to inspire him to increase his performance level. That week the player will be awarded 1 extra point for each 2 points he scores.
2. No owner may award both bonuses to the same player.
3. Only one bonus may be used by any team in any one week.
4. Bonuses may NOT be used in the playoffs.
L. Continuous League
1. Pro leagues are continuous (year-to-year). If you renew your team at the end of the season, you may make trades during the offseason, including trades for picks in the upcoming supplemental draft.
2. Offseason schedules and deadlines are posted or mailed at the end of each season.
3. Pro leagues have a fixed cutdown size of 3 to 4 players. Each offseason, rosters must be cut down to the limit, then a supplemental draft is held.
4. In year one, the draft order is serpentine (first to last, last to first, etc.). In subsequent years, the supplemental draft order is determined by the previous season's finish and the NFSL Position Point system.
M. Playoffs
1. 6 teams qualify for the playoffs. Qualification is in this order:
- 1st place team from each division
- 2nd place team from each division
- remaining team with best won-lost %
- remaining team with most points scored, regardless of record
2. The top two seeds receive a BYE in round one of the playoffs.
3. Tiebreakers for any seed position are:
 1- Won-lost % (for 6th seed)
 2- Most points scored
 3- Most points against
4- Most points scored by coach/manager
 5- Coin flip
4. In each playoff round, the higher seeded team receives a home field advantage:
- Round 1: 2-week match, 12.5 point HFA (First week only)
- Round 2: 2-week match, 10.5 point HFA (First week only)
- Round 3: 2-week match, 0.5 point HFA (First week only)
5. In each round, the highest remaining seed plays the lowest remaining seed, etc.
6. In a 2-week playoff round, home field advantage is awarded only in week 1. Lineups can be changed at the start of week 2. Total points for the 2 weeks determines the winner (There is no 5-game series).
7. In the final round, there will also be a match between the two teams that were eliminated in the semifinals. The result of this match determines the 3rd/4th place teams.
N. Position Eligibility
1. All player positions are announced prior to the drafts. At the start of the season, NBA Rosters are used to determine if eligibility should be ADDED to a player. Eligibility will not be taken away.
2. Once the NBA season starts, position eligibility will not change for the season..
O. Deadlines
1. The weekly transaction deadline is 3:00 PM Eastern time on Fridays. IR and practice squad moves may be made after the deadline, all the way until the lineup deadline.
2. The weekly lineup deadline is 12:00 noon Eastern time on Mondays.
3. No trades are allowed after week 14.
4. No free agents are awarded after week 17.
